From its founding in 1940 and continuing to the present, the Wiles, Boyle, Burkholder & Bringardner law firm has culled an established civil litigation defense practice, with particular concentration in assisting liability insurers with third-party defense claims, first-party property claims, and coverage disputes.

The firm's members practice civil litigation in all state and federal courts in Ohio, as well as a multitude of other jurisdictions, while also frequently writing and lecturing for the risk management industry in a variety of venues and publications. Motor Carrier law, Products Liability, Toxic Torts, Construction, Aviation and Professional Liability are some of the many areas where the firm has had the privilege to serve as trial defense for leaders in the local, state and national business community.

In addition to member and leadership roles in a variety of civil defense organizations (including the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute), lawyers in the civil practice group have also served as state trial and appellate jurists, Amicus Brief authors, and as liaisons to the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and Ohio Judicial Conferences.
